Resumo: This research investigated the conception of culture in Freud's works, specifically "Totem and Taboo" (1913) and "The Psychology of the Masses and Analysis of the Self" (1921). The objective of the work was to trace the trajectory of the concept of culture in Freudian thought, highlighting the interaction with the fundamental concepts of psychoanalysis. The modern subject defines and finds himself through culture and analytical experience, revealing the incompleteness of history itself and the impossibility of a single meaning. In this sense, the research seeks to answer two main questions: what is the path of the concept of culture for Freud between 1913 and 1921, and how this concept moves between these works. Methodologically, it consists of a bibliographical research with a qualitative approach, based on published materials and focusing on social characteristics without numerical measurement. The results indicate that culture and society are shaped by the drives of life (Eros) and death (Thanatos), with society emerging as a regulatory construction of human desires and impulses, supported by taboos, laws and institutions. "Totem and Taboo" and "The Psychology of the Masses and Analysis of the Self" are interrelated works that address the formation and dynamics of culture and society.
