Resumo: This research aims to analyze how my English classes are developed within the prison context, and then proposes content and working plans that may be relevant to this group of people. This research has qualitative basis and is a study of a high school class in a prison school. The theoretical foundations for this research are the National Curriculum Standards English Language for High School (2000) and the Common Basic Contents (CBC) of the English Language for High School (2008); the concepts of social activities and English language teaching practices proposed by Liberali (2012), teaching proposals for prisons presented by Thomas and Thomas (2008) and citizenship development shown by Clough and Holden (2002), Perrenoud (2005) and Freire (1967, 1970). The identity concepts presented by Bauman (2005) and Hall (2006), underlie the search, as well the principles of punishment proposed by Foucault (2003). The data is composed by (a) a description of classes given by the teacher – from 12/02/2014 to 11/06/2014, the Teacher Class Record Book and teaching material and (b) research on English language learning wishes in writing with the student-focus, completed by notes of the researcher-teacher. The description of the classes is analyzed according to the teaching-learning theories and language, especially regarding to the English language for high school and the data from the desires of research is categorized and discussed according to the theoretical foundation. The discussion indicates paths for English language teaching and learning proposal more consistent with the target, based on the perspective of social activities, and that can potentially contribute to the identity transformation of students in confinement.
