Resumo: | This work aims to analyze the short story "Duelo" present in the book called Sagarana (1946), written by João Guimarães Rosa. The analyzes elucidated here comprise literary aspects from the narrative to the question of the figure of the “sertanejo” man in the author’s view, as the case of the character Turíbio Todo who surprises his wife, Dona Silivana, in adultery with the soldier Cassiano Gomes. Rosa suggests a re-reading about these “sertanejos” characters, gives them voice and merit in a literary context in which the heroes are bourgeois and occupy high social spheres. The “sertão” created by Rosa is considered a wonderful place, where man and nature, when they occupy the same environment mix, dialogue among themselves and show the natural and rustic landscape of the Brazilian “sertão”. The author tries to highlight a new “sertão” composed not only of miseries, but simple people, of value and culture. Nature is beautiful, harmonious and strong. Rosa creates enigmas throughout "Duelo", and occupies the reader to remove him/her from his/her comfort zone, because the story has climax throughout its sequence, beginning, middle and end. As for the theoretical reference, we resort to the theoretical bases of the Argentine critic Jaime Alazraki, who suggests a new constitution of genre titled Neofantastic. This genre has three characteristics: vision, intention and modus operandi, which were applied to "Duelo", in a critical-reflexive approach. In addition, this dissertation contemplates resources used by Rosa as epigraphs, metaphors, neologisms and other innovative linguistic aspects for Brazilian literature, during the twentieth century and to the present day. |
