Resumo: This work is the result of a doctoral research from the work of the artist David Mamet, playwright and American-born filmmaker. A detailed analysis of three of his works Sexual Perversity in Chicago, American Buffalo and Success at Any price was done, in which a whole aesthetic and thematic apparatus are mobilized, which allow us to perceive the dilemmas and struggles of the artist in face of his affirmation that he is the son of the 1960s, revealing questions and criticisms about the issues that mark his generation. It is a journey to what he conceived as human nature, where he seeks the individual aspects to speak of a particular society. Thus, his pessimistic perspective on man and his actions makes us think about contemporary society itself. Thinking about the logic of society marked by consumption, lost utopias, the individualism present in the pursuit of happiness, ethics and greed, are some of the proposals contained here, using the theatrical texts as an object of investigation.
