Resumo: The present thesis examines, between two historic moments (decades of 1930 and 1960’s), the factional disputes and categorizations related to political struggles in Maranhão. The main focus has been on examining the political, cultural and family inscriptions agents that authorize them use the main newspapers of the state, as competitors or interpreters to intervene in electoral process and competition. It was also used a discursive corpus composed of texts published in these press vehicles by these agentes. It started from the agenda of the study group LEEPOC, by analyzing modalities of political labeling in the forms of “isms”, which function as a criteria of localization of the protagonists of the political conflicts in the considered decades and their alignments. On the one hand, it intended to characterize social origins, dispositions, school paths, cultural and political insertions, professional activities, resources accumulated or inherited from agentes, and on the other hand, to objectivize their positions on politics, notably the classifications constructed of the “factions” and their leaderships.
