The objective of the present study is to investigate aspects related to practices in Corporate Governance among organizations focused on educational services in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Corporate Governance practices were analyzed and compared to the Governance recommendations published by IBGC (Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance), identifying which organizations were in better condition to manage their internal processes. The research was qualitative and descriptive, since the information obtained cannot be quantified. Data were analyzed inductively, and interpretation of phenomena and attribution of meanings are essential tasks in the research process. It was concluded that Governance practices exist in the Institutions under study, but they are tacit and informal. Thus, there is opportunity for management actions supported by internal controls, able to reduce risks and provide quality to the services offered by the Institutions.
