Resumo: | This work investigates the formation language of political parties in Rio de Janeiro between the years 1837 and 1842. For its realization, we analyzed political periodicals that circulated in the Court during the time frame. As a method of investigating the sources, we used the methodology of political languages, which made it possible to rescue the connection between practice and political language, thus demonstrating the linguistic action of the characters through events in the government and in the Chamber of Deputies. In order to support the main method, we also used prosopography to analyze the social profile of the ministers who occupied power, since the alteration of these characters in the political game also modified the political vocabulary of the press, as well as the party denominations. As a theoretical basis, we used the concept of political culture, which, together with linguistic contextualism and the social analysis of the leaders who occupied power, demonstrated the discursive similarity between the groups, since they shared interests and had similar life trajectories. The concept of liberalism, on the other hand, made it possible to recognize the degree of difference between the political associations that were being formed. Therefore, this work investigates, through the press that circulated in the Court, the transformation of political identities, in the practical and doctrinal scope, in the transition from the Regency to the Second Reign. |
