Resumo: |
The investigation proposed in this thesis examines José Saramago's lyrical phase, represented by the works Os Poemas Possíveis (1966) and Provavelmente Alegria (1970). Prose is often the primary focus of studies on José Saramago. However, his poetry plays an essential role in understanding his literary project. Thus, we propose to examine Saramago's poems, with an emphasis on the constant presence of metapoetry, specifically manifested in thematic-figurative isotopies that explore the poet's craft, the concept of poetry, and the composition of the poem—elements that reveal an engaged artist, that is, a writer fully aware of his poetic practice. In light of Discursive Semiotics, a methodology that dialogues with Comparative Literature, this study addresses the construction of meanings and their effects in the verses, based on the Generative Path of Meaning, particularly at the discursive level. Our analyses are grounded in the works of Greimas and Courtés (2012), José Luiz Fiorin (2008), Diana Luz Pessoa de Barros (2008), and Denis Bertrand (2003). The study confirms that Saramago's lyricism employs language not only as raw material but also as a central theme of his work, integrating knowledge with poetic practice. The chapters presented contribute to the critique of Saramago's lyricism, encouraging further research in this relatively unexplored area. |
