Resumo: | This dissertation aims to analyze the complementation of the causative head in a synchronic and diachronic perspective in Brazilian Portuguese. It is the study of analytic structures with causative verbs (deixar, fazer, mandar) followed by infinitive verbs, in sentences such as (Eu fiz ele entrar, tomar uma água com açúcar e relaxar um pouco./ Fizeste mal em deixá-lo entrar, mas agora é preciso salvá-lo), and lexical structures in which the causative verb is not lexicalized, in structures similar to (Maricota, ainda não te cansou essa janela?). The material analyzed consists of sociolinguistic interviews and texts of plays. The texts contemplate the course of time of XIX, XX century and beginning of XXI century. I adopt the assumption that variation and linguistic change occur in line with parametric changes in language grammar and that natural languages project a causative head (CauseP). Thus, the analysis of causative structures is developed in the theoretical-methodological framework formed by Variation and Change Theory, (WEIREINCH, LABOV and HERZOG (1968), LABOV (1972)), by Parametric Sociolinguistics in Tarallo and Kato's (1989) proposal, and by Minimalist version of Principles and Parameters Theory (see Chomsky 1995 and subsequent works), Roberts (2007), Pylkkänen (2002, 2008). I propose an extension of Pylkkänen's proposal (2002, 2008), demonstrating that the causative head can also select defective TP and the complete C-T system. The analytical causative constructs license complementation of Causeº in variation in the studied period. The variation of complement selection by the Causeº in PB is established in functional categories, namely: non-phasic vP, phasic vP, defective TP and CP. It should be noted that these categories are shown ambiguously in some contexts where the properties are mixed in phasic vP / defective TP; non-phasic vP / defective TP; defective TP / CP; phasic vP / TPdefective / CP. The result show Causeº selects CP complement at the same time the PB grammar system is established. |
