Resumo: | The study between the association of common mental disorders (CMD) in teachers and its relation to the conditions in which their work is performed it is necessary in order to understand better the reasons for the physical and mental illness of this specify working class. This study has intended to estimate the prevalence of CMD in public elementary school teachers in Uberlândia-MG and to associate them with the socio-demographic, environmental and labor conditions of these professionals. A random sample of 330 teachers that worked at 36 public schools was explored in this cross-sectional study. Two data collection instruments were used in this study, the General Health Questionnaire-12 (GHQ-12), and a structured questionnaire with questions regarding to the possible risk factors and the protection in the development of CMD. The data were analyzed by means of bivariate analysis and later by logistic regression. The risk factors associated with the development of CMD found in this study were: female gender, effective bond at work , two shift shifts, experience with violence in the school environment, and use of medications for sleep disorders. The results have shown that the mental health of the teacher needs interventions that aim greater autonomy, class empowerment through public policies, and the support of society, in general, that could bring benefits that extend even in improving teaching conditions. |
