Purpose: The study aimed at elaborating the socio-demographic and educational profile and to identify the qualification needs of Regional Coordinators of Primary Health Care of Minas Gerais Secretary State for Health, to analyze their knowledge about goal and objectives of the institution and their perception about the importance of skills in dealing with people. Methods: The investigation is of exploratory-descriptive type. The research subjects are 28 Regional Coordinators of Primary Care. For the collection of data it was used a semi-structured questionnaire with 22 questions covering socio-demographic profile, education and training , the need for qualification, knowledge of the goal and objectives of the institution and evaluation of the importance of skills in dealing with people. Results: The socio-demographic profile of the Coordinators shows that the average age is 46.67 years, mostly female and married; 75.00% have monthly income of 3 to 5 and 79.17% do not perform other functions that generate income. 91.67% have completed university and 86.36% have a post -graduation degree. 66.00% of coordinators have more than five years experience, 70.83% received no qualification in the first three months of the appointment; 45.83 % point the cost of participation in events the greater difficulty in pursuing more qualification. The skills profile is uneven due to different levels of academic background and provision of training courses. The Coordinators of Primary Care have knowledge about the goal and objectives of the Regional Health Management in that they have clear understanding of the importance of skills in dealing with people. Conclusions: From the results we believe that some interventions are needed as such: to establish a profile of the coordinator by defining a set of skills, expertise and level of appropriate training; to include the post of coordinator in the institution’s organizational structure; to define initial qualification and skills and competences to fill the post. |
