Resumo: This study discussed the relationship between human resource practices and work processes developed by primary healthcare teams with emphasis on the health of the elderly, using data of 61 cities of Minas Gerais. This study used secondary data from two surveys carried out in 2012: National programme for improving access and quality in Primary Health Care (PMAQ) and Equity in Health: a study from the Health at home programme in Minas Gerais. The data of 77 Basic Health Units and 1,431 elders were analyzed by logistic regression. The study found that the human resource policies and practices that contribute to the success of elderly health care in Primary Health Care in Minas Gerais are those that, from training to the task itself, promote stability to professionals, fixing them in the Basic Health Units, in a manner that establishes and strengthens a bond between the healthcare teams and the elderly. This bond is essential to the healthcare of this group, since their health is discussed from aspects such as autonomy, functional capacity and supported self-care.
