Resumo: | Aging causes changes in the speed of information organization, providing more time to process data. This reduction in the cognitive capacity of the elderly may represent one of the main causes of impairment of independence and autonomy. This study aimed to identify published scientific evidence on practices to promote the mental health of elderly people in primary care; to analyze the association between the variables related to primary care professionals and the health actions developed for the elderly with the actions of promotion and prevention of the mental health of the elderly and to prepare a guide for primary care health professionals on memory stimulation of the elderly to promote their mental health. Methodological study developed in three stages: integrative literature review; exploratory field research and development of the technological product. In the integrative review, 13 studies were selected. A total of 171 Primary Care professionals in the city of João Pessoa participated in the field study. Data collection was performed using a questionnaire, data were grouped in Excel, submitted to SPSS, version 26.0, and Pearson's Chi-square and Fisher's Exact tests were applied. The data supported the development of an educational guide with the help of the Coreldraw program. The integrative review showed that mental health promotion practices aimed at the elderly population are guiding instruments for improving the quality of life, providing the elderly with socialization, independence, autonomy, memory stimulation and improvement of self-esteem. In the field study it was found that 84.2% of the participants carry out health promotion actions for the elderly, with 81.3% of the actions being for the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases, and the guidelines on healthy eating were the most prevalent (78.9 %). Most professionals (50.9%) do not perform mental health actions, however, 32.2% perform physical activity actions; 71.3% do not hold a memory workshop; 69.6% do not feel qualified to develop memory actions; 62.6% reported that in the evaluation, the elderly complain of forgetfulness. There was a significant association between the variables, prevention actions in mental health with having training in the health of the elderly, carrying out health promotion actions for this public, carrying out actions to prevent diseases of NCDs, carrying out actions to prevent functional dependence, carrying out actions of memory workshop, perform memory stimulation activities, feel able to carry out preventive actions in mental health and that the elderly complain of forgetfulness. Finally, a practical guide to memory stimulation was built. The study points out the difficulties of professionals in working on activities related to memory, as they present weaknesses due to lack of training. It was possible to identify the fragility of AB professionals in continuing education, noting that professionals with training are the ones who carry out the most activities. Based on these findings, the instrument constructed will help professionals in the evaluation and activities of stimulating the memory of the elderly, contributing to the promotion of mental health of the elderly and qualification of the practice in Primary Care. |
