Resumo: The present study aims to analyze the process of restructuring mental health care in the Brazil - Argentina international border region, fostered by the psychiatric reform movements and signed by the Caracas Declaration. This is a descriptive-analytical study, with a qualitative approach. Data collection took place through a semi-structured interview, with users and health workers, subsequently examined through Content Analysis. According to the objectives of this research, data collection was carried out in two moments: 1) interviews with the teams of health workers (11 participants) who work in the following services: Psychosocial Care Center I - Dionísio Cerqueira (Santa Catarina) , Expanded Family Health Center 1 - Barracão (Paraná) and Autogestión Public Hospital - Bernardo de Irigoyen (Misiones - Argentina), in order to identify the other mental health care services and / or strategies in the study territory, as well as how to understand, through their perceptions, how mental health care has been produced in the border region; 2) interviews with mental health users (23 participants), in order to understand their experiences and perceptions regarding mental health policy. The results and discussions are presented through three articles: Article 1) Mental health services in the international border region Brazil - Argentina; Article 2) Considerations on the production of mental health care in the international border region Brazil - Argentina; 3) “When treatment started, madness started!”. It appears that the process of restructuring psychosocial care in mental health in the international border region Brazil - Argentina, takes place in a very heterogeneous and non-integrated manner, marked by contradictions, impasses, tensions and many challenges.
