Resumo: | The History of Toys is seen, in Brazilian historiography, as part of Children's History. Based on a search in the editions of the Revista Brasileira de História and the Revista Brasileira de História da Educação, was possible to identify this universe and apprehend the toys and the culture in the construction of the object of this dissertation. Several protagonists emerged in the construction of the research and helped to set up the cultural history of toys, more specifically, the Falcon doll. From the United States to the world, the G.I. Joe doll emerges. In Brazil it is renamed Falcon and marks a generation of children. Although it appeared in the 1960s, it is only at the end of the following decade that the doll will be brought to Brazil, in 1977. At that time, the Falcon arrived imbued with American ideals such as patriotism and militarism. Despite the whole Cold War context in Brazil, something beyond the political alignment with the United States weighed on the existence of Falcon, the Military Regime, the doll arrives during the regime and stays until a few years later. To dialogue with this object, I used Chartier's narratives about representation in Cultural History, some productions by Walter Benjamin and Johan Huizinga, to understand the playfulness universe in this universe of toys, as well as the Sandra Pesavento’s understanding of sensibilites. The objective of this work is to elaborate descriptions about the historical and cultural weight of toys, as well as to perceive changes and permanences in their universe. The research has its methodolgy based mainly on th analysis of toy catalogs that circulated at the proposed time (1977-1996), as well as clippings such as newspapers and magazines, which also featured stories about Falcon. Thus, it was possible to identify the representations and meanings of Falcon and some other toys that also circulated at the time with a similar theme, to praise the United States and the defense of the so-called “western values”. |
