Resumo: This study proposes, from the perspective of rural sociology, to study the consequences of the advance of agribusiness for the environment and for the society of Mato Grosso. To this end, it addresses the nature and formation of the social being, demonstrates that deforestation is not the cause but a consequence of the capitalization of the countryside, which uses modernization to favor the destruction of nature, the domination over rural peoples and of the forest, as well as imposing a single mode of culture, devaluing local knowledge, causing the expansion of borders and the concentration of land and income, consequently, unemployment in the countryside. From this, alternatives that mitigate the impacts caused by capitalist agriculture, such as agroecology, based on the conservation of natural resources without the use of pesticides, added to family agriculture, as a mechanism to reduce social inequality, by generating work/occupation in the field. The methodology applied is qualitative-quantitative, the study was structured in bibliographical research, documents and websites, with deforestation data, index of plantations per hectares and commodities harvests, due to the fact that Mato Grosso is based on agribusiness.
