Resumo: | This research intends to analyze the geographic distribution of schoolchildren with obesity in the city of Cuiabá-MT, as well as the associated socioeconomic factors. It is noteworthy that the increase in obesity cases is already a concern on a worldwide scale, with Cuiabá being the 6th capital of the country and the 2nd capital of the Midwest with the largest number of overweight people. The research was carried out in eight state public schools, defined according to their participation in the School Angels Project (PAE - Projeto Anjos da Escola) and in the School Health Program (PSE - Programa Saúde na Escola), and their geographical location in the urban perimeter of the capital of Mato Grosso, aiming to approach different clusters. The analysis took place through the responses of students from 13 to 17 years old, regularly enrolled in the final years of elementary school. According to the sample data, the research indicates that obesity is concentrated in the lowest ranked clusters and among self-declared black and brown students, a population that, according to the results of this research, is unable to maintain an adequate standard of nutrition. The nutritional transition and the insertion of ultra-processed products are decisive for the high rate of obesity, which can be understood as a social disease. This study arouses attention and concern for the students' full health condition, since obesity has been shown to cause other diseases, and poor diet can cause harmful damages to the full development of the student. |
