Resumo: | The goal of this work is to show two versions of Neopyrrhonism: one of Oswaldo Porchat and the other from Robert Fogelin. To accomplish that, we divided the thesis in four chapters. In the first chapter, in a search toobtain a clear definition of pyrrhonism we take a closer look on Sextus Empiricuss works in order to reveal two aspects, (i) the so called sceptical modes which are collections of arguments to combat any dogmatic philosophy and (ii) the scepticcriteria of action. In the second chapter we approach Oswaldo Porchatsworks. To better understand his philosophy, we divide his works into two distinct phases. In his first phase, he opts for a refusal of scepticsm, but at the same time he maintains a sceptical thematic. In his second phase, Porchat embraces scepticism and givesus contemporary reflections on Neophyrronism. Together with Porchat, we have another neopyrrhonic: Robert Fogelin. Fogelins thoughts can be divided in two arguments, the firstone takes a closer look at the idea of knowledge from the so called Gettiers problemsperspective. Its conclusion is a sceptical view of the foundation of knowledge. The second argument resides in the idea of the precarious life of human reason. In the last chapter we give two central arguments. The first one is about the relation of Porchats and Fogelins Neopyrrhonisms. The second one is about the importance that Neopyrrhonism can take in contemporary philosophy. |
