Resumo: This study focuses on the analysis of the use of urban spaces by youth in a condition of social vulnerability, inhabitants of the periphery of the city of Belo Horizonte. The objective was to understand how these subjects experience urban spaces (besides their school and their houses) from their daily lives, also identifying their expectations, limitations and restrictions they encounter to enjoy these urban spaces. This is a qualitative, descriptive-exploratory study that used semi-structured interviews as a data collection technique. Fourteen young people aged from 13 to 18 years old, residents of Vila Santa Rosa, whose families were registered in the CADÚnico database of CRAS Santa Rosa, were interviewed. The main findings pointed to the adapted form of different uses of urban spaces by young people, the demand for work opportunities, and the absence of programmed daily activities beyond the link with the school. Socialization practices represent the main uses of urban spaces, with the possibility of meeting arousing the greatest interest to attend a space, followed by the opportunity to experience sport and leisure activities and, thirdly, the quality of accessible physical infrastructure in the place. The reports also explain the lack of public facilities for sport, culture, leisure and coexistence, the difficult access to local public transport, in addition to the maintenance of the segregationist order in the use of central public spaces in the city. It is expected that the findings of this research will contribute to the development of public policies aimed at young people from the periphery, as well as encourage discussion on the subject of urban planning and youth
