Resumo: This thesis vindicates the need of an approach between Information Science (IS) and the cultural and artistical fields, which hasnt received much attention by IS researchers The main objective of this investigation is a proposition of guidelines of action which can feed the development of a cultural and artistical infomation system aimed to Belo Horizontes (BH) rock bands. It has four parts (the two first as a resulting of an extended bibliographic review): infomation systems, the rock in a world culture; followed by a jield research on the problems that rock bands meet in producing their shows and CDs and what are the resources they use; and, at last, a conclusion that aglutinates the other three. On the first part (chapter 2), the word system is analysed through a correlation of several concepts as, for example, simple x complex and order x disorder. This comparative study helps the comprehension of the chapter, where the trend of IS displacing its axle from data to users is also shown. A short institutional tipology of infomiation services is also given. Chapter 3 and part of the 4 look into the question of a world culture and how rock insert itself into it through the analysis of three items which are interrelated: a) the rock as an industrial cultural product; b) as an aesthetic phenomenon and c) as a sociocultural movement with a strong presence among youth. A Brazilian context (especially at the a and c items) is also examined. The facts that justify the inclusion of rock in library collections and a short historical description of the music scene in BH are also given. The rest of the chapter presents the results of the interviews carried out with 12 rock bands from BH; their diticulties for the production of shows and CDs aremethodically presented and divided by categories. In the conclusion, peculiarities in a proposition of a cultural and artistical information system (like plurality, dynamism, and a modulate strategy of its implementation) are presented as well as the relation between thethree items mentioned before and the results of the interviews (like the lack of a place for shows; problems with producers and how to raise iimds; the scattered public, juridical questions, studios; distribution etc). It concludes with the indication of guidelines for the creation of a system aimed to Belo Horizontes rock group demands as well as suggestionsfor further studies.
