Resumo: The goal of this essay is to evaluate the importance of information on the activities of Arts & Culture workers in Belo Horizonte City, considering the work opportunities for infonnation workers in this field. In order to each this goal, a literature review was made, resulting in the identification f a theoretical framework related to both Culture and Information Science, ncluding concepts as Language, Culture and Information, Interpretation f Culture, Cultural Identity, Cultural Economy, Cultural Policy and the Cultural Incentive Laws. Structured interviews were conducted with a stratified sample of the population of Arts & Culture workers, listed in the First Cultural Guide of Belo Horizonte City. The relevant theoretical framework was applied to the analysis of the subjects' responses, resulting in the following conclusions: the majority of the subjects isaware of the available information sources regarding artistic and cultural activities, but such sources don't seem to contribute to their practice either in the aesthetical or in the economic aspect. There is on the part of the subjects a high level of awareness regarding the importance of information to the preservation of the group's cultural identity, as wellas to its role in supporting innovation, creativity, and the economic results of their work. The subjects aspire to a cultural policy concerned with the creation of incentives, the preservation of authenticity and innovation, and the distribution channels for cultural goods. Based on such requirements, we understand that important work and researchopportunities for information workers are available in the field of Arts & Culture, given the relevance that information transfer has on the social dimension of such activities.
