Resumo: The world of work, especially after the productive restructuring triggered by the recession of the 1970s, went through several transformations, almost all of which were directed towards the increase of high profit rates. Now the management models were being guided by the idea of flexibility, in which production was linked to the materialization of demand and good results linked to the biggest possible cost cut. As work occupies a main place in the individual's life, the changes reflected in different ways in the worker's life, from subjective aspects such as mobilization, to objective and formal aspects, such as hiring modalities and labor legislation, the vast majority of which had a negative impact, making work precarious and consequently the worker's life. In Brazil, the outsourcing modality has grown rapidly and an effort by the business class to take it to all activities has stifled mobilizations against unrestricted outsourcing. In this context, the objective of the research was to analyze the dynamic pleasure and suffering in the work of outsourced workers in the context of a public Higher Education Institution. The research was a qualitative approach, guided by the references of Psychodynamics of Work and Historical and Dialectical materialism. The data collection of the study was carried out through a semi-structured interview script, with eight outsourced workers who play their duties at a public Higher Education Institution. The survey also included an interview with the contract manager to achieve a broader dimension of the outsourcing phenomenon in Higher Education. The main source of pleasure at work was recognition, accompanied by cooperation between workers and a good relationship with the UFMA students. In the opposite direction, defensive strategies such as denial and rationalization were identified in order to mitigate the damage caused by suffering at work, in general, due to the shock between moral conflicts and work organization and the insecurity caused by the instability that outsourcing brings.
