The present study was carried out with women babassu quebradeiras de coco babaçu from the community of Igarapé dos Índios, municipality of Zé Doca, Monção, Maranhão. The research aims to understand the way of life of these women, how they organize themselves in community and their ancestral knowledge; the research also addressed the game of Bumba meu boi, one of the most significant cultural manifestations of Maranhão, and sought to concern the role of these women in this celebration of Maranhão popular culture. For this, semi-structured interviews were carried out with conversations and experiences, taking into account that the researcher is the daughter of quebradeira de coco babaçu in the community and returned there as a researcher from within, doing the opposite of most anthropologists, she returned to do an ethnography shared with their relatives. |
