The work search to contemplate about the social mentality of the Old Regime regarding the childhood, especially in relation to the tolerance partner-religious person to the children when these incurred mistakes against the Catholic faith. The analysis period includes the centuries XVI, XVII and XVIII, taking as space inclusion Portugal and colonial Brazil. Firstly, we looked for to contemplate about the production of the Brazilian historiography that has as theme the child at that time colonial. Soon afterwards, we intend to visualize the child in the western world in the Old Regime. The documents of the Inquisition are visited when we tried to identify the conception of "childhood" contained in the Regiments of this institution. Already when analyzing the papers of the Inquisition - processes, confessions, you denounce - we will look for to compare the practice of this institution, in the work with the smaller sinners of age, with what it stipulated their Regiments. This way, we will look for to understand it as the logic of operation of the Inquisition approximated or it distinguished of the new conceptions regarding the "child" in the Old Regime
