Resumo: The research was developed in fishing colony located in the city of Sao Goncalo, called Island of Itaoca. The Island of Itaoca possess a population of approximately four thousand inhabitants. This population occupies basically on activities of artisan fishing, small agriculture and general services. The study focoses on the aspects of the work with fishes, especially in the activity of extration of meat of "siri" (sea-crab), that it is carried through by women on their own houses. These women have developed traditionally for more than fifty years this work in a family way. They use rudimentary techniques of work and integrate the net of commercialization of the crustacean, working together with the fishers that capture the product. This patrimonial technique is transmitted to the youngers through its relatives, and nowadays is threatened by the structural questions of it artisan fishing and for the processes of ambient degradation that harms the populations that live in the surrounding of the Bay. The study employed the etnographic methodology and searched to reconstruct the itineraries and senses of the work in the fishing, reflecting on the knowledge and the experience constructed and shared by these people in their relation with territories of life and work and natural ecosystems.
