Resumo: The Educational context of today’s society is centered around an education ruled by competitive activities, which take place in a meritocratic fashion, with disregard for the child’s peculiarities and limitations as well as the individual’s subjectivities. In this respect, the focus of this research originated from the initial question: How Cecilia Menano and Augusto Rodrigues’ Education through Art relates to Joao dos Santos’ Therapeutic Pedagogy? The general objective consisted in understanding, based on the experience of Brazil and Portugal’s Little Schools of Art, the relationship between Art and the Therapeutic Pedagogy proposed and practiced by Joao dos Santos and Cecilia Menano. To reach this objective, an investigation with a qualitative approach began, supported by interviews, according to Gaskell (2002). Oral history’s contributions were brought in, through studies by Thompson (1992); Alberti (2013); and Juca (2006, 2003). As for the research’s narrative, it was guided by Ricoeur (2010) and Bloch (2001); in regards to Social Memory, Candau (2016); Halbwachs (2003) and Certeau et al (2013) were consulted, when addressing the importance of daily life’s analysis to the research. A hemerographic method was implemented according to Seibel (2007), who taught that journal research gives public visibility to facts and phenomena. The theoretical framework supporting this research is based on the following authors: Herbert Read (1986, 1978, 2007); Fischer (2014); Dewey (2010); Lopes (2015); Santos (1957, 1991, 1993, 2007); White (2000, 2010, 2013); Zoladz (1990); Klintowitz (1980); Britto and Palma (2019); Miranda (2009) and others. The research resulted in the following conclusions: in Joao dos Santos’ Therapeutic Pedagogy, Art functions as a mental health tool for children; Cecilia Menano’s work gained density and identity with the creation of high-relief engravings for the blind including Braille language support; Augusto Rodrigues influenced a whole generation of art-educators in Brazil, as well as other countries that have known about his life, work and achievements. Regarding the Little School of Art Movement, this thesis has presented, through theoretical data and oral narratives, supporting evidence of Brazil’s pioneering in relation to Portugal. From critical and reflective analysis of the work produced by Joao dos Santos, Cecilia Menano and Augusto Rodrigues, it was extracted the idea that Art and affection are the source of a child’s strength.
