Resumo: One of the greatest challenges facing modern society is the equation of urban waste issue. In addition to the significant growth of the generation of solid waste, especially in developing countries. This research brings up the issues related to cooperatives of Maceio waste pickers, namely the Cooperative of Recyclers Waste Maceio Urban (COOPLUM), the Cooperative Collectors Emater Vila (COOPVILA) and the Recycling Cooperative Alagoas (COOPREL), the latter acting with two units. The work is justified by the scarcity of research on the topic covered, especially nowadays where the production of waste is growing exponentially and it is unclear practical mechanisms that will enhance the management of this waste in a satisfactory and sustainable way in the city of Maceio. The central research objective is to establish a set of environmental sustainability indicators in municipal solid waste recycling cooperatives of Maceió - AL. To achieve the goals, they used indicators of environmental sustainability in recycling cooperatives, where after the data analysis it was concluded that cooperatives have similarities in both aspects related to production / productivity, as with respect to the materials recovered. It infers also that these institutions are an important waste management tool in Maceio, and if supported can add even more concerning the improvement of the organizational conditions of the city.
