This dissertation discusses the problem of authorship allied to the theory of double, in order to analyze the work Secret Window, Secret Garden (1992) by Stephen King. To do so, we took the theoretical assumptions of Roland BARTHES and Michel FOUCAULT, especially the concepts of "death of the author" and "author function". To work the issues related to the double concepts of "uncanny", by Sigmund FREUD and the "mirror stage", by Jacques LACAN were used. King`s work fits this perspective that we investigated, since it presents the character Mort Rainey after a trauma in their divorce, creating a double named John Shooter, which represents all its settlements and he claims authorship of a work of Mort. This relationship between authorship and double guided and justified our research.
