Resumo: |
The capitalist way which promotes financial globalization and the growing technological development have contributed to increased impoverishmentand deterioration of social networks, thus bringing serious consequences to Brazilian society, mainly to low-income classes. Among such consequences there is the early introduction to work of children and teenagers who help support their families afflicted increasingly with unemployment. São Paulo city, in spite of being the largest economical center in Latin America, lives this reality and seeks ways to solve this complex issue. The aim of this study is to disclose effects of actions taken by welfare providers regarding children and teenagers inserted in the Child Labor Elimination Program (PETI) adopted by São Paulo County and verify whether these guarantee true child and teenager protection. The research conducted in September of 2009, brought out the daily affairs of families who live in Parque Rondon, located in low-income outskirts of the city. These poverty stricken families resort for decades to childhood labor as means of survival |
