Resumo: Introduction: Mental disorders are present in 10-20% of children around the world, and neuropsychiatric conditions are the main cause of functional impairment in young people. Early diagnosis and treatment of these cases is essential. Teachers and educators, who are in contact with children and adolescents for a long period of time, need to be able to recognize the first signs and symptoms of mental illness, as early diagnosis is directly correlated with a better prognosis. Objective: This thesis aims to: Evaluate the prevalence and profile of patients with mental disorders in children and adolescents treated at the Psychosocial Care Center for Children and Youth (CAPSij) in Votorantim, as well as associated factors and their determinants, and train teachers in the kindergarten and elementary schools in the municipality for the early recognition and referral of children and adolescents with mental illness, providing training to teachers about the most prevalent mental disorders in this population and developing positive attitudes and beliefs regarding the mental health of children, with less stigma and greater confidence in how to identify and address mental health problems. This is an interventional observational study, with a cross-sectional design, being carried out from August 2019 to December 2021, after the necessary administrative and ethical approvals. The training model was agreed with the Municipal Department of Education, aiming at greater participation by teachers of early childhood and fundamental education in the municipality of Votorantim. Results: The contents were those based on the most common psychological and psychiatric problems in childhood and adolescence, based on the situational diagnosis carried out at CAPSij, using an instrument developed by the researchers. A profile and prevalence of mental disorders in childhood and adolescence was found at CAPSij in Votorantim similar to that reported in the literature. Through an educational intervention, it was possible to provide knowledge to teaching teachers, as well as to develop positive beliefs and attitudes in relation to children's mental health, with less stigma and greater confidence in how to identify and address mental health problems. Discussion: Promoting mental health training allows for the establishment of stronger links between the health and educational systems, allowing for the proper targeting of children who need help
