Resumo: In this dissertation an analysis of the technical evaluations in Brazil called exame criminológico (in a free translation, a ‘criminal exam’, which is done by experts in Psychology and Social Work in order to allow the access to rights such as a parole or an early release) is brought up, as well of its theorical and legal background. Such analysis is developed under a critical perspective in Criminology, Social Work and Criminal Law. Therefore, I investigate de sociohistorical conditions of the imprisoned working class according to the different paradigms of this incarceration process, also regarding the phenomenon of criminal selectivity. In addition, I also investigate the academic and political critics on this exam, mostly concerning its poor and questionable scientific characteristic. In conclusion, I suggest critical possibilities of professional intervention by social workers in prison considering the democratic and human rights orientation of the political ethics of Social Work in Brazil
