Resumo: The research proposes as a theme the analysis done in the documents and photographic files present in the documentary Contacts (2015) through the approach of the processes of creation and culture. On the basis of semiotics developed by Cecília Salles (2006), the main objective is to catch the thinking under construction through the interpretation of the indexes contained in this material, seen them under the light of the process criticism. Identify and map the creative procedures, especially the photo editing feature, observing and interpreting the cultural influences in which the creation process is inserted. The focus of the research is to find recurrences of creative thinking with the intention of presenting discussions about contemporary photographic practice. These spaces were conceived and extracted from the organization and publication of the following volumes: Conceptual Photography and Contemporary Photography, referring to the DVD Contacts (2015), in which excerpts of images of archives commented by its author were presented. It is the opportunity to understand the process of creation as a communicational phenomenon, analyzing the content in its own creative development. The hypothesis presented here is the construction of the photographic thought that is systematized as networks of knowledge, in which the photographer gains the role of a mediator with its environment; and that is organized in constant elaboration of the photographic sign in its interactions with the culture, driven by its transforming subjectivity. Thus, looking at the various indexes present in the documents, an investigation of the creative path is made, mainly regarding the direction that is given to the files during its production. The marks left in the contacts indicate decisive aspects for creation, so the intention is to look at this object, considering creation as a continuous movement, where each trace must be analyzed in its context. With the help of the methodology of process criticism and the organization and mapping of archives, the research is built through a theoretical network, in which cultural thinkers such as Edgar Morin, Rubens Fernandes Junior and Vilém Flusser are correlated. The main focus is the edition as a poetic resource. It aims to contribute to both the process research and the discussion on new directions in contemporary photography
