Resumo: This thesis examines how the trade union movement of workers facing the complex restructuring process taking as the investigation place the union representing workers in metallurgical, mechanical and electrical material of Caxias do Sul-RS. This research is supported at the literature, interviews and focus groups with workers, their analysis allows to verify the extent to which the union has acted in a manner to resist the offensive of capital in the production process in the struggle to overcome its structural crisis. To understand better the trade union movement, researched the roots of trade unionism in Brazil, with its heritage and selective transformations of the past as to their organization and forms of resistance. In the present context, to examine the transformations in the technology, management and work organization in the production process in the globalization of the money. We can observe the offensive and the impacts in the labor world, particularly in the attempt to capture the subjectivity of workers. This research showed the emergency and the level of restructuring process in Caxias do Sul, the actions taken by the Labor Union, the participation and the perception of workers in the union action, the reasons for the unionization of workers, or not, and the role of the entity. The results show even with the subsumption of the employed in the money logic, the metalworker’s union has resisted this onslaught indicating the existence of conditions to the classic actuation in front of the contradictions generated by capitalist relations of wage labor.
