Resumo: | This study was proposed to reconstruct and analyze the economic aspects of wine cooperatives in Caxias do Sul. Therefore, it was proposed to gather information about the history of the economic development related to the cultivation of the vine and to the wine production. As part of the research, a case study was conducted at the Wine Aliança Cooperative Ltda. to monitor the conjunctures, growth and development of the sector in question, especially in the form of organization of the Movement, acting as a resistance group to the economic and commercial pressures. To achieve the goals, it was necessary to examine the early forms of the Italian colonization process in Rio Grande do Sul. The historical process of wine production in Rio Grande do Sul and Caxias do Sul was described. The factors that triggered the emergence and decline of wine cooperatives in Rio Grande do Sul in the period 1911 to 1914 and the contribution of Stefano Paternó for the development of the first cooperative movement were evaluated. The economic and innovative events related to the wine industry between the years 1914 to 1929 were identified and the role of the agents for the construction of the segment and the new model of cooperative wine were examined. Finally, a case study was carried out at the Aliança Wine Cooperative Ltda. from Caxias do Sul, giving emphases to the 80 years of existence of the business venture. Founded on January 4, 1931, the Aliança Wine Cooperative came up with the Italian immigrants living in the Aliança Travessão, in the rural areas of Caxias do Sul.In 2010 it appeared the New Aliança Cooperative which united the experience and solidity of a history of more than 80 years of five traditional wine cooperatives of the Serra Gaúcha. Thus, together, Aliança and São Victor (from Caxias do Sul), Linha Jacinto (from Farroupilha), Santo Antônio e São Pedro (from Flores da Cunha) decided to become a single company, bringing together people, values and history, to form the New Aliança Cooperative Winery. The fusion of the five companies joined knowledge, experience and competitiveness to meet the social, economic, environmental and market demands, establishing new foundations for the development of family agriculture and of the cooperativism. The cooperative search, therefore, bring to market differentiated products, made from modern technology combined with handcrafted care during all stages of production, with the guiding principles of cooperative attitude, innovation, quality, valorization of the people, the environment and culture. The Cooperative has approximately 1,350 acres of vineyards in production, resulting in 35000 tons of grapes processed in ten industrial units located in the Serra Gaucha and Santana do Livramento. The construction of new headquarters in the city of Flores da Cunha, in the Serra Gaucha, scheduled to start its operations in the harvest of 2013 will be a new milestone in the history of wine cooperatives and will open new horizons for family farmers, for farmers, for members to customers and employees. |
