Resumo: The imaginary is a potentially rich term and it is specially crafted to deal with the complexities involved in the relationship between individuals and the cultural products. The potential benefit of this concept, however, is counterbalanced by its high degree of theoretical refinement and its slippery nature. These combined features require a careful approach to make its use applicable. The effort of this work follows two directions, is an analytical view on the concept of imaginary since its genesis and a hermeneutic exercise that attempts to sustain the filmic analysis having the same as north. Other end of the study follows a different request of the term imaginary, the need to examine the current conditions of representability and facticity, especially the triple relationship between real, fictive and imaginary in the wider landscape of the contemporary. The aim of this thesis is to highlight the appearances and illuminate some of the qualities of the contemporary imaginary in movies, using a small selection of titles and weighing how they can accuse its appearance. The duplication in fictional movies, with its movement of back and forth between worlds, can display more clearly something that has no accurate ontological determination, but it is undeniably present.
