Resumo: |
Today, asthma affects approximately 300 million individuals, resulting in a socioeconomic problem for the population. Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways, characterized by acute attacks of obstruction of the lower airways causing respiratory difficulties. Apical Periodontitis is caused by etiologic agents that produce in the tooth anatomical clinical conditions that lead to tissue loss, with consequent pulp involvement through acute and chronic inflammatory conditions. The influence of BP on systemic alterations has been widely studied. Since some conventional BP treatments are not 100% successful, photodynamic therapy (PDT) appears as a coadjuvant treatment. It is not yet known about the relationship between asthma and apical periodontitis. This study aims to evaluate the effect of photodynamic therapy associated with endodontic treatment on pulmonary inflammation in an experimental model of asthma. Sixty-four male Balb / c mice were divided into 8 groups (n = 8). Basal, Apical Periodontitis, Apical Periodontitis + Treatment, Asthma + Apical Periodontitis + Treatment, Asthma + Apical Periodontitis, Apical Periodontitis + Treatment + PDT, Asthma + Apical Periodontitis + Treatment + PDT. Apical periodontitis (AP) was induced with the coronary opening and the tooth remained open for 21 days. Asthma was induced by ovalbumin (OVA) and aluminum hydroxide, subcutaneously (days 0 and 14) challenge via tracheal oro, three times a week for six weeks. The treatment of PA was performed with calcium hydroxide and / or PDT with methylene blue (0.005%) associated with red diode laser irradiated 660 nm, with energy of 287 J / cm2, with 9 J at the point, delivered in 90 s . Total and differential counts of alveolar bronchial lavage (BAL) and serum alkaline phosphatase were analyzed after euthanasia. On the other hand, when we performed standard endodontic treatment, associated or not with PDT, we observed a reduction in the number of cells recovered from the bronchoalveolar lavage. In addition, there was an increase in bone resorption (alkaline phosphatase) in the Endo and Endo + Asthma groups, but with the treatments, only the non-asthma groups reduced this parameter. It is concluded that apical periodontitis may increase pulmonary inflammation. The association of Asthma with Apical Periodontitis worsens the parameters of pulmonary inflammation. However, after the standard treatment associated or not with PDT of apical periodontitis, pulmonary inflammation decreased in the asthmatic mice, reaching near the basal levels. |
