Resumo: The theme of the Son of Man has been researched with the aim of identifying the expression with a historical person in the history of Israel. A new approach has been proposed which does not seek the identification of a historical person, but considers this figure to be the development of new ideas, and the resignification of existing ones, through social groups that project their hopes in a coming future, in contrast to their actual state. The book of Revelation, in chapter 1 verses 9-18, describes a mysterious figure wrapped in Jewish simbology that John calls “one as the son of man”. The appearance of the expression “Son of Man” occurs in the Old and New Testaments, but also in the literature known as Jewish Apocalypse. In the different types of reports found, the expression designated a being who possessed distinct attributes, functions and duties. The majority of these functions emphatically point towards judging, having Israel as spotlight. The present work has as its objective an analysis of the expression in the Book of Revelation and its implications for the thought and the developing idea of the Son of Man christology in early Christianity.(AU)
