Resumo: Not infrequently, the end of the period of maternity leave tends to trigger in women different types of psychic suffering. This, in turn, results from differentiated factors present in the life of each mother. This study aimed to analyze the return to work from the perspective of women after maternity leave. To do so, it was adopted as a qualitative research method of the type of case study, which had as participants 13 public servants of the education area, in the municipality of Poços de Caldas/MG, that returned from maternity leave in the years 2014 and 2015. The semistructured interview was used as an instrument, seeking analysis of the results in light of the theory of work psychodynamics. The results indicated that in the context of reconciling motherhood and work, the participants, in an almost general way, expressed opinions that lead to the realization that being a mother is related to a personal fulfillment, a unique experience gifted with meaning and affection. However, it is also not so easy, but it is also known for a lot more than for a long time, but unlike most up to date things, it becomes a mother as it limits both as a worker and as a woman/person. With regard to pleasure through the development of professional activities, in the eyes of these graduates, becoming mothers can serve as a personal/professional improvement, since this phenomenon calls them to deal differently with their work in education, but among the most frequent of suffering, triggered insecurity, but not when returning to the job, but in thinking how their babies would be cared for in the period in which they are working. On the contrary, it points to the psychodynamic theory that addresses the defense mechanisms as to a strategy is not as difficult as professional experiences, as participants brought in their speech defense strategy against possible suffering to be experienced due to the separation of the baby, since nurturing a fantasy of loss of the mother's place. According to the data obtained, in addition to teaching and learning, in their discourses they bring affectivity as a fundamental factor for the sense in the work with children, but also recognizes that the search for technique is of extreme relevance for the development of the activities with the children public. Finally, it can be considered that even though these women are imbricated in diverse contexts that besides pleasure bring suffering, they are not sick. Since in their speeches do not indicate data that can be related to the psychopathological diagnosis. In doing so, they understand that although they often suffer, but they find in their trajectories the sense to be mothers and workers.
