Resumo: Suicidal ideation precedes most suicide attempts. Knowing the factors that influence college students to think about self-extermination, contributes to the prevention of suicidal behavior in this population. Objective: To identify the psychological, social and behavioral factors associated with suicidal ideation in college students from the Nursing, Medicine and Psychology. Method: Descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. The probabilistic sample consisted of 171 participants, who responded to self-report instruments on sociodemographic characteristics, quality of life, mental health, suicidal ideation, family relationships, social support and academic performance. To compare independent groups according to the presence of suicidal ideation, Pearson's Chi-square or Fisher's Exact tests were used for categorical variables and Student's T or Mann-Whitney's tests for numerical variables. The factors associated with suicidal ideation were investigated using the binary logistic regression technique. Results: The prevalence of current suicidal ideation is 18.1% (n = 31) and suicide attempts throughout life are 5.8% (n = 10). After binary logistic regression, the follow variables remain associated with suicidal ideation: anxiety, quality of life physical and psychological domains, quality of sleep, academic performance, family functionality and parental expectation. Conclusion: The discovery of factors associated with suicidal ideation in college students, makes it possible to identify students who are more likely to develop suicidal ideation and to direct intervention strategies for the prevention of suicidal behavior in universities.
