The association between Zika virus (ZKV) infection and microcephaly has raised the need for more knowledge to face this new challenge. Researching on epidemiology of diseases that could negatively influence the healthy gestational period, birth and development is the key point to organize control and prevention actions. Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile of pregnant women with ZKV living in the municipality of São José do Rio Preto, SP, in the year 2016. Method: This is a descriptive, quantitative epidemiological study with SINAN-Net data analysis, Ministry of Health notifications of ZKV in the municipality of São José do Rio Preto, SP. Results: In that year, 1326 suspected ZKV cases were reported in São José do Rio Preto. Of these, 989 (74.6%) were female, and 287 (29.0%) were pregnant women. Of these, 254 (88.5%) were residents in the municipality of São José do Rio Preto, purpose of this study. Final considerations: The results of this research make it possible to evaluate the scale of the problem and collaborate with the elaboration of intervention programs to minimize negative consequences toward such important phase of human development. |
