The aim of this study was to determine the body mass index (BMI) and physical activity index for workers in the footwear sector in the region of Franca and analyze the association of them. Therefore, 357 employees of the production sector with an average age of 33,8 years old answered the questionnaires to collect demographic data and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), weight and height were measured to calculate the (BMI). The results show that 17.4% of the evaluated are sedentary, 24.64% are insufficiently active, 42% are active, and 15.7% are very active. Regarding the classification of BMI, 42.45% of workers are eutrophic, 33.24% are in the condition of overweight, and 24.3% are obese. However, no association was between of physical activity levels and the classification categories of BMI. The results of this study may conclude that 42% of employees are sedentary or insufficiently active and that 57.4% were classified as overweight or obese, but without association between of them. This high percentage of sedentary and overweight employees demonstrates the necessity of control of obesity and physical inactivity through workers health promotion programs, since these may produce improvement in quality of life in the footwear sector. |
