Resumo: The general objective of this study is to analyze the view of technical-administrative employees (TAs) of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of São Paulo (IFSP), Suzano campus, about the social function of the institution. It was possible to observe that the creation of Federal Institutes (IF) is linked to a proposal to overcome social inequalities, by offering access conditions to professional training courses, which is an essential part of their social function: training for work. Among the main theoretical references, Pérez Gómez (2000) helped us to understand that the social function of the school has been an arena of ideological dispute. To discuss this key concept, we use the contributions of Cury (2008), Correia (2013), Mendonça (2011) and others. Libâneo (1990), when discussing pedagogical trends, reinforced the argument that the school is the stage for ideological disputes. As for the methodology, we used the descriptive-analytical approach, considering theoretical references, legislation, official documents, and the data that were collected through the application of a survey directed to the TAs of the Suzano campus of the IFSP. This survey had as its central question: what is the view of the TAs on the social function of the IFSP? The analysis of the data obtained revealed a highly favorable view regarding the fulfillment of the social function by the Suzano campus of the IFSP. The research resulted in the submission of a proposal to expand the forms of contact present on the institutional website, using a “suggestion box” type form, to bring the community closer to the campus management, considering the importance of this link according to the theoretical framework approached, in line with some manifestations of TAs in the open questions of the proposed survey.
