Resumo: In the past few years, especially since the 1980s, the internationalization issue at the university education context has been gaining interest even at the practical context as in the academic research (ALTBACH; KNIGHT, 2007). Despite this interest, authors such as Dal-Soto, Souza and Alves (2014) highlighted that the university’s internationalization process have a lack of theories that can help in a further understanding of the phenomenon. Effectively, is possible notice that the Brazilian Universities have not yet reached an internationalization level compatible with the Brazil’s potential relative to its economy size and global importance. This low internationalization leads to a failure of the country economic and scientific opportunities, as highlighted Contel and Lima (2007). For that purpose, and with the attention focused at the problem, this work starts following this leading question: how is the Brazilian universities internationalization process at the Uppsala internationalization theory perspective? For that matter be properly addressed, this work was divided in two methodological stages. The first one is mostly inductive, organized in six interviews with experts and performed whose main objective was to understand the university internationalization process (which involves the study of its facilitators, obstacles and motivators). At the second stage there was four more additional interviews based on a semi-structured script created on the Uppsala Internationalization Theory intentions and using the literature on universities internationalization. This procedure enabled the achievement of this work central goal, as well as the proposition of theoretical and empirical contributions about the issue.
