Sustainability criteria should serve as guiding parameters for the various phases of the tendering procedure, as well as an important point to be taken into account when deciding on the most advantageous tender. The objective of this work is to propose the inclusion of criteria related to sustainability in the purchasing processes carried out by the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná. In methodological terms, the approach was qualitative, applying the exploratory and descriptive research methods regarding the objectives and bibliographical and documentary regarding the technical procedures. The adoption of sustainability criteria in public procurement was based on the results of the bibliographical and documentary research, which corresponds to the second phase of the research development, in consonance with the current environmental legislation and with the assumptions of sustainability and protection of the environment.
