Resumo: |
Glanders is an often fatal zoonosis that affects horses, donkeys and mules, caused by Burkholderia mallei. Complement Fixation (CF) is the test prescribed by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) for its diagnosis. This work was conducted with the objective of evaluating the performance of CF using antigen produced with Brazilian strains of B. mallei (Biovetech, Recife Brazil) for the diagnosis of glanders compared to the antigen c.c.pro (GmbH, Oberdorla, Germany), which employs strains from Yugoslavia, India and Indonesia. The tests were performed in parallel using the protocol of cold incubation (4 ° C, 12 hours) of the serum, complement and antigen mixture. Of the 259 sera evaluated, 102 and 133 presented positive and negative results, respectively, in both tests. Twenty-four negative sera in the c.c.pro antigen test showed a positive result in the Biovetech antigen test. The calculated concordance index kappa was 0.81, considered almost perfect. |
