Resumo: It’s very difficult to link macro and micro universes concepts in Biology teaching-learning processes in order to develop a systemic view and a significant learning. The aim of this study was to identify the difficulties in forming concepts related to protein synthesis and test the feasibility of a teaching sequence using educational games to overcome previously identified difficulties. Some teaching tools (video, conceptual map, games, problem-solving and group interaction) were used to promote the learning of abstract concepts involved in the study of biology. The use of anabolics was highlighted at each stage of the related sequence in order to minimize the distance between the universes involved. The research was conducted with 8th stage students from an Undergraduate Course of Biological Sciences. The study showed that: (a) the undergraduates still had a disjointed view; (b) a contextualized and systemic approach can provide a better understanding of concepts. From these results we should to rethink the teaching practice in higher education, providing better contexts to teacher students activities. It probably will overcome their difficulties in develop a significant learn of abstract concepts as well as can contribute to introduce changes in their future teaching practice, with positive effects on basic education.
