Resumo: The cultivation sugarcane has undergone technological modernization over the years, mainly due to the increase in the demand for ethanol; fuel used in the national motor vehicle fleet, in this way the use f heavy machinery becomes necessary to increase the efficiency of the cultural practices and the productivity of culture. Soil compaction is a daily problem of professionals who submit the soil to the use of agricultural machinery to optimize the food production or bioenergy system. The knowledge of the compressive potential of the soil through the pre-consolidation tension aids in mitigation of the damages caused by the traffic of heavy machinery, when handing the entrance of machines in order to avoid loads grater than the pre-consolidation tension, however, the content of water in the soil modifies the variable. Than objective of this work was to characterize and model the capacity of support, through tha pre-consolidation tension, of a dystrophic Yellow Argisol under sugar cane cultivation at different moisture levels. The mean pre-consolidations voltages presented significant difference when compared by layer. The linear model was the on that most adjusted the soil conditions and area management in the two layers analyzed. The water content in the soil showed a negative correlation with the pre-consolidation tension, and the soil density shower positive correlation.
