The aim of this study is to make considerations about the disagreements involving the Bishop D. Frei Luís de Santa Teresa in Pernambuco, Brazil, during the 18th century. We approached the Jacobin spiritual movement of which the Bishop was part. For that reason, we felt the necessity of understanding the foundations of the movement, its principles, exercises and desired manners. We highlight the conflicts of the Bishop with the governor, the Franciscans, and the Secular Justice. These factors explain different conflicts in the first half of 18th century. |
