Resumo: The purpose of this study is to investigate the didactic and pedagogical strategies carried out in an early childhood education differentiated context in Recife´s public schools system, in order to understand whether they contribute to the formation of sustainable socio-environmental attitudes in 4-year-old children. Historically, environmental education practices, including in early childhood education, have followed a conservative bias, dichotomous and biologizing, detached from reality and little contributing in the formation of sustainable attitudes, since it prioritizes focused conceptual content memorization of decontextualized and far removed from application in real everyday situations. Reflecting critically on this troubling scenario, we identified the need for the existence of innovative environmental educational practices that must be included since the early years, in early childhood education, being based on real environmental issues, addressed in a transdisciplinary purview, which are geared to citizenship and the formation of sustainable attitudes. In this sense, we ask to what extent the environmental education practices in early childhood education in a differentiated context in Recife´s public school system are contributing to the formation of sustainable attitudes? This is a case study with a qualitative approach, which investigates the social and environmental educational strategies in early childhood education through the analysis of contents. The data was constructed through observations, semi-structured interviews and documentary analysis, aiming, in this analysis, the triangulation of data, which are interpreted in the light of sustainable attitudinal dimension, academic work from childhood , early childhood education, social and environmental education and transdisciplinary theories and pedagogical innovation. The results point to a rethinking of didactic and pedagogical practices of environmental education in early childhood education and to the understanding of the elements necessary for the existence of innovative environmental educational practices aimed at attitudinal formation as of the effective rupture with the foundations of conservative education.
