Resumo: Nim (Azadirachta indica A. Juss), is an original India species, and it presents a great economical importance, for it is resistance wood and due to the great number of active beginnings. Therefore, the objective this work was to evaluate the effect phosphorus and potassium for initial growth of seedlings of nim, in two different soils on Atlantic rain forest of Pernambuco. The experiment was led at greenhouse at Agronomy of Department, UFRPE, in Recife. Samples of two soils types were collected in depth from 0.0 to 0.20 m, being the same of different areas on Pernambuco. The samples were placed to evaporate to the air and after that in sieve of mesh of 2 mm and, later, characterized chemistry and physically. The seeds were sowed in recipients with capacity of 1,0 dm3, being placed three seeds by recipient. After the germination, it was made the thinning, just leaving one plant for recipient. The phosphorus fertilization was made applying doses of 0, 100, 200, 400 and 600 mg.dm-3, being used the simple superfosfato as source. The potassium fertilization was made being applying doses of 0, 50, 100, 150 and 300 mg.dm-3, being used the potassium chloride as source. Complete randomize design was used, with factorial 2 x 5 x 5 (two soil types, five phosphorus doses and five potassium doses) with four repetitions. The evaluation was made by a period of 60 days. After that, the measurements of height plants were made, and of the diameter in the height lap and made the harvest of the plants next soil level and certain the dry matter of the aerial. After harvest seedlings, were made soil analyses, to determinations of recovered P and K and in part aerial of plants, were accomplished analyze and certain concentrations of P and K and critical levels soil and of the plant. Nim presented different growth in function of phosphorus and potassium doses and also in relation to studied soils, being better the development species in Argisol. The critical levels phosphorus in studied soils varied from 6.25 to 34.85 mg.dm-3, already in potassium varied from 49.62 to 109.62 mg.dm-3, the critical levels of phosphorus in plants varied from 0.67 to 1.22 mg.dm-3 and in potassium from 0.95 to 1.06 mg.dm-3. In the conditions in work was led, the results allowed to conclude that the plants of Azadirachta indica had a better development when cultivated in Argisol in all studied variables, for production of dry matter of the aerial part of the plants Azadirachta indica in Latosol, the phosphorus and of potassium doses were not enough to determine critical level in soil, the critical levels phosphorus in the soil were larger in Argisol, while the potassium was larger in Latosol, the critical levels phosphorus and potassium in the plant for the seedlings of Azadirachta indica they were larger in Latosol.
